Field Season Lectures
While not all scientists will be visiting and speaking during the same weeks, we plan to have the following give talks throughout the 2016 field season:
Dr. Antoine Bercovici - Smithsonian Institution - Peter Buck Postdoctoral Scholar; Palynologist and K/Pg extinction/recovery expert
Dr. Stephen Chester - Cuny Brooklyn College - Assistant Professor; Vertebrate Paleontologist specializing in the recovery of mammals post K/Pg extinction.
Erica Evans - Denver Museum of Nature and Science Paleobotany and Vertebrate Paleontology Intern; geologist specializing in GIS mapping and geostatistical modelling of the K/Pg Boundary.
Dr. Kirk Johnson, Sant Director of the Smithsonian Institution - Paleobotanist and K/Pg extinction/recovery expert; presenter, "Making North America".
Dr. Tyler Lyson - Denver Museum of Nature and Science - Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology; Vertebrate paleontologist specializing in the evolution of turtles and the K/Pg extinction/recovery events.
Dr. Ian Miller - Denver Museum of Nature and Science - Earth Sciences Department Chair and Curator of Paleobotany; Paleobotanist and K/Pg extinction/recovery expert.
Gabriella Rossetto - Denver Museum of Nature and Science Paleobotany and Vertebrate Paleontology Intern; geologist specializing in GIS mapping and geostatistical modelling of the K/Pg Boundary.
Dr. Louis Taylor - Denver Museum of Nature and Science - Research Associate; Vertebrate paleontologist specializing in the recovery of mammals post K/Pg extinction.
Visiting Scientists
One of the things that sets MRF apart from other volunteer opportunities is its facilities and infrastructure that attracts numerous visiting/collaborating scientists every year. Most visiting scientists will give a powerpoint presentation after dinner that discusses their work in the region.
Field Program participants attend lectures by visiting scientists.
A Stellar Precedent
In 2015, the following gave presentations at some point during the field season: Dr. Kirk Johnson, Sant Director of the Smithsonian Institute; Dr. Hesham Sallam, Professor, Mansoura University (Egypt); Dr. Antoine Bercovici, Peter Buck Postdoctoral Scholar at the Smithsonian Institution; Dr. Louis Taylor, Research Associate at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science; Dr. Tyler Lyson, Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
