Field Season Lectures

While not all scientists will be visiting and speaking during the same weeks, we plan to have the following give talks throughout the 2016 field season:

Erica EvansErica Evans - Denver Museum of Nature and Science Paleobotany and Vertebrate Paleontology Intern; geologist specializing in GIS mapping and geostatistical modelling of the K/Pg Boundary.


Dr. Kirk JohnsonDr. Kirk Johnson, Sant Director of the Smithsonian Institution - Paleobotanist and K/Pg extinction/recovery expert; presenter, "Making North America".


Dr. Tyler LysonDr. Tyler Lyson - Denver Museum of Nature and Science - Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology; Vertebrate paleontologist specializing in the evolution of turtles and the K/Pg extinction/recovery events.


Dr. Ian MillerDr. Ian Miller - Denver Museum of Nature and Science - Earth Sciences Department Chair and Curator of Paleobotany; Paleobotanist and K/Pg extinction/recovery expert.

Visiting Scientists

One of the things that sets MRF apart from other volunteer opportunities is its facilities and infrastructure that attracts numerous visiting/collaborating scientists every year. Most visiting scientists will give a powerpoint presentation after dinner that discusses their work in the region.

A Stellar Precedent

In 2015, the following gave presentations at some point during the field season: Dr. Kirk Johnson, Sant Director of the Smithsonian Institute; Dr. Hesham Sallam, Professor, Mansoura University (Egypt); Dr. Antoine Bercovici, Peter Buck Postdoctoral Scholar at the Smithsonian Institution; Dr. Louis Taylor, Research Associate at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science; Dr. Tyler Lyson, Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
